Access to America Online from Outside the United States
If you sign on to America Online with a local access number that is outside the United States, there is a telecommunications surcharge for all the time you are connected (even during your free trial period). This surcharge varies and is subject to change. For the latest surcharge information, go to Keyword Access online.
1. Obtain local access numbers and networks by calling 1-703-448-1184.
2. On the Sign On screen, click Setup.
3. Enter the local access number into the Phone Number field.
4. Verify that the correct network is selected as the Connection File. (For example, AOLGLOBALnet)
5. Make further changes to this window if necessary. For more information about the Connection Settings window, select Changing Your Setup from the Help topics.
6. Click on Save. A dialog box will appear.
7. Type a name for the new locality file.
8. Click on Save.
9. Select the new locality file from the Locality pop-up menu.
10. Sign on to America Online.
In Canada, you can access America Online at speeds up to 28,800 bps using the AOLnet network and the number 1-800-318-2265. There is a surcharge for all the time you are connected using this number.
